Major John Chambers assumed responsibility as the Deputy Commander of the Kansas City District in July 2021. He is a native of Grosse Ile, Mich. and commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after graduating from the United States Military Academy in 2006.
Major Chambers earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy, a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the Missouri University of Science and Technology in 2011 and a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2016. He is a certified Project Management Professional.
His previous assignments include Task Force Engineer, 2-325 AIR, 82nd Airborne Division; Platoon Leader and Executive Officer, Alpha Company, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division; Detachment Commander and Chief of Training, US Army Sapper Leader Course; Commander, 509th Clearance Company, 5th Engineer Battalion; Instructor and Assistant Professor of American Politics, Department of Social Sciences, United States Military Academy; Battalion Operations and Executive Officer, 1st Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division; and Secretary of the General Staff, 1st Infantry Division.
Major Chambers has deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom during the “Surge,” conducted a no-notice deployment to Haiti for Operation Unified Response after the devastating 2010 earthquake, and deployed to Poland for Operation Atlantic Resolve.
His military awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal; the Army Commendation Medal; the Army Achievement Medal; the Valorous Unit Award; the Combat Action Badge; the Sapper Tab; the Ranger Tab; the Senior Parachutist Badge; the Pathfinder Badge; the Bronze Order of the de Fleury; the Order of St. Maurice; and the Order of St. George. He is also the recipient of the LTG Robert B. Flowers award for being part of the winning team in the US Army Engineer Regiment’s 2011 Best Sapper Competition.
Major Chambers is married with two children.
