  • Team holds meetings across the region for Lower Missouri River system plan

    Officials will hold a series of public meeting for the Lower Missouri Flood Risk and Resiliency Study, also known as the system plan, throughout the region in April. The meetings, which will be held by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will provide an overview of the study, a status update, input on reach measures, flow and stage frequency analysis update and an open discussion. This is an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide input regarding the Lower Missouri Flood Risk and Resiliency Study.

  • Construction of $9.25 million aquatic ecosystem restoration project commences at Harlan County Lake, Nebraska

    Officials gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Harlan County Lake aquatic ecosystem restoration project at Harlan County Lake, Nebraska, on January 16, 2024. The project is a partnership between the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. While pre-construction activities have been underway since December 2023, construction of the core project features began earlier this month.

  • Flood Resiliency Study team to hold public outreach meeting in Jefferson City, Missouri

    Officials are hosting a public outreach meeting in Jefferson City, Missouri, on Monday, November 13, to discuss the flood resiliency study near Missouri River mile marker 142. The meeting will be held at Missouri Department of Natural Resources, 1730 E. Elm Street, Jefferson City, Missouri, 65101, and will be hosted by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

  • USACE and Harlan County Lake conduct community emergency preparedness exercise

    A tabletop exercise was conducted in Superior, Nebraska, on April 12, 2023, by local emergency management agencies for Harlan County Lake in conjunction with the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The purpose of the exercise was to showcase the joint emergency preparedness between local communities around Harlan County Dam and USACE. In attendance at the tabletop exercise were representatives from the City of Superior, Nebraska, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, the Superior Volunteer Rescue Squad, Jewell County Emergency Management, Superior Fire Department, the National Weather Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Nuckolls County Emergency Management and the Jewell County Sheriff’s Office.

  • Rock protection project begins on portions of the Harlan County Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has begun construction on a project placing a rock, also called riprap, overlay on portions of the upstream side of Harlan County Dam, near Republican City, Nebraska. This project will protect the dam from future wind and wave erosion.
