14th Annual Youth Fishing Day a huge success

Published June 3, 2015

WARSAW, Mo.,—  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Missouri Department of Conservation would like to give a special thanks to all of those who participated in the 14th annual Youth Fishing Day held on May 4 at the Missouri Department of Conservation Regional Office in Clinton. Fifty-six students from surrounding school districts participated in the day’s events and learned about water safety, fishing, outdoor recreation, and the importance of conserving our natural resources.

Activities provided by the Missouri Department of Conservation included a fishing tournament at the freshly stocked pond and learning about archery, snakes and reptiles. Corps personnel instructed the children about water safety through interactive games and activities. During the fishing tournament, most of the children caught fish and were awarded prizes for the most fish caught, participation, and having a great attitude. Thanks to local sponsors for donating the prizes.

Special thanks go out to the Lakeland High School Future Farmers of America for their contribution to this great event. Their assistance and great leadership made the Youth Fishing Day a great success for the children.

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Harry S. Truman project would like to thank all of those involved in making this another successful event. Providing our youth with knowledge of outdoor recreation and natural resource management is a vital part of our mission. We look forward to holding the Youth Fishing Day for many years to come.
