Corps provides Missouri River overview tour for U.S. Senators Blunt and Hoeven
KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The Northwestern Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a comprehensive overview of the Missouri River in both the Omaha and Kansas City districts May 29 and 30 for U.S. Senators Roy Blunt of Missouri and John Hoeven of North Dakota.
The purpose of the trip is to conduct visits so the legislators can see first-hand the components (dams, levees, habitat mitigation and biological recovery) of the Missouri River Mainstem System in both the upper and lower basins of the Missouri River and to better understand the inter-dependencies of its components.
They will view damages caused by the historic 2011 Missouri River Flood, and the status of repairs underway from Ft. Peck, Mont., to Kansas City, Mo. They will also view several mitigation sites along the Missouri River that allow the Corps to operate the river for all authorized purposes while meeting required legal mandates.
The media is invited to two 15-minute media events on Wednesday, May 30. The first will be held at the Charles Wheeler Downtown Airport at Hanger 10 from 10:15 to 10:30 a.m. The second media event will be held from 1:30 to 1:45 p.m. (weather permitting) in St. Joseph at Rosecrans Memorial Airfield on Levee R471-460. If weather doesn’t permit, the event will be held at the City of St. Joseph Memorial Airport.
