Long Branch Lake offers a great variety or waterfowl species whether you enjoy bird watching or hunting.

All of the lakes in the Kansas City District host waterfowl.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Kanopolis Lake announce the annual waterfowl blind permit drawing. The event will be different than that of previous years and will be held as an application process all done online. This procedure will help follow CDC guidelines and eliminate a crowd gathering and person to person contact.

The application period will run from Saturday, August 29, 2020 through Saturday, September 12, 2020. The applications to fill out and return can be found through our website, Facebook page or directly emailed to you. The applications can be printed and mailed to our office or emailed to the below email.

*Important* - The drawing order will determine the blind location selected. A map will be included with the application and if applicant has a preference on site location, they need to mark that on the map and return map with application. If you don’t have preference your location will be randomly selected.

Once the application period ends, a random lottery drawing will be held by USACE staff to determine order of site selection and permit application for 12 waterfowl blind locations.

Issuance of the waterfowl blind permit allows drawn applicants the ability to place a blind for more than 24 hours in an assigned area on the shoreline. The permit for designated areas will end Feb. 14, 2021.

All blinds must be removed by Feb. 24, 2021.

Participants must be at least 16 years of age and only one member per household are allowed in the application process.

Previous year drawings included 25 blind locations however blind locations 13-25 are no longer included in the drawing. These were removed due to lack of interest in those locations and easier public access in that area. The blind locations that were removed from drawing can still be accessed but blinds left more than 24 hours are no longer allowed except for in drawing blind locations 1-12, for successful applicants.

During the waterfowl season the lake levels will likely fluctuate and that could change conditions on the blind locations.
