Demolition of Kaw Valley Drainage District maintenance facility
In another step forward for the $529M Kansas Citys Levees project, demolition has begun at the Kaw Valley Drainage District maintenance facility, co-located at the Argentine Main Pump Station on Argentine Blvd in Kansas City, KS. The maintenance facility was originally constructed in 1954 and has been the home to KVDDs operations and maintenance efforts for 66 years. KVDD is building a new facility one block to the north. Demolition of the maintenance facility will allow Michels Corporation to begin construction on the replacement pump station and subsequent demolition of the existing pump station. The replacement of the Argentine Main Pump Station is part of a larger $33M contract that includes the ongoing repairs to the Turner Avenue Pump Station and the replacement of the Strong Avenue Pump Station. Construction is expected to last until November 2022.
