Michels Corporation has begun demolition of the existing floodwall along the Argentine Levee Unit, adjacent to the Argentine Main Pump Station, to facilitate construction of the replacement pump station facility. Michels has a temporary flood protection plan in place to provide flood protection if river waters rise during construction. Operated and maintained by the Kaw Valley Drainage District, the Argentine Main Pump Station was originally constructed in 1916. The replacement of the Argentine Main Pump Station is part of a $33M contract that includes the replacement of the Strong Avenue Pump Station and repairs to the Turner Avenue Pump Station.
