Stockton Lake boat ramp and fishing dock reopened after major repairs

The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, announces the temporary closure of the Crabtree Cove Boat Ramp and Fishing Dock at Stockton Lake. The closure is scheduled to begin on March 16, 2026, to allow for significant repairs to the boat ramp maneuver area. During the construction period, no public use of the ramp or dock will be permitted. The project is necessary to address substantial damage caused by years of flood inundation and wave action, which has led to cracking and damage of the existing asphalt surface. The repair project will involve milling the current asphalt and replacing it with a more durable concrete surface to ensure long-term stability and safety for all users.

Temporary recreation area closures and service reductions begin May 15 across Kansas City District, USACE

The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will temporarily close or reduce services at recreation areas across Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa beginning May 15, 2025. USACE is currently managing seasonal staffing and resource limitations that affect its ability to safely open and maintain all recreation sites at normal levels of service. These temporary adjustments are being made at all 18 Kansas City District lakes to ensure visitor safety, protect environmental resources and sustain critical hydropower and dam operations.

Army Corps of Engineers waives fees and invites volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, Sept. 28. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities such as group picnic shelters. Other agencies and partners that manage recreation areas located on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to comply with this waiver of day use fees in the areas they manage.

Stockton Lake officials to temporarily limit access to Hawker Point campground and boat ramp

Officials will be closing the boat ramp and encouraging the public to limit access at the Hawker Point campground from March 18 to March 29, 2024. The boat ramp will be closed while lake staff and the Missouri Department of Conservation complete their annual fish habitat project. The campground will remain open, but Stockton Lake staff are encouraging the public to reduce road traffic at the campground while the project is ongoing.

Stockton Lake holds joint emergency preparedness exercise

Officials held an emergency preparedness tabletop exercise at Stockton Lake in Stockton, Missouri, on December 6, 2023, to showcase the joint emergency preparedness between local, state and federal agencies in the area. The tabletop exercise was coordinated and led by the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In attendance at the exercise were representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, National Weather Service, Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri State Emergency Management Agency, Missouri Highway Patrol and St. Cloud County Emergency Management.

Kansas City District waiving collection of day use fees for October & November

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, announced today that it will waive the collection of fees at its day use recreation areas for the months of October and November. Fee collections were suspended earlier this year at boat ramps and swimming beaches when recreation areas were closed due to COVID-19 precautions. USACE plans to resume its day use fees in the spring of 2021.

Corps seeks comments on Stockton Lake water supply storage reallocation study

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is seeking comments on a tentatively selected plan for the Stockton Lake water supply storage reallocation study. The tentatively selected plan proposes to reallocate 45,750 acre-feet from the Stockton Lake multipurpose pool and 49,000 AF from the flood control pool, with a 1.8-foot increase to the normal pool elevation. The plan would also include a new water intake structure within the existing City Utilities of Springfield easement at Stockton Lake.

To maintain a high level of safety, Hawker Point and Orleans Trail South parks will close Nov. 3 and will reopen Nov. 13. Masters Park will be closed to archery hunting and hiking on Nov. 9-10. Individuals planning activities in these areas should consider other options around the lake.

The Kansas City District urges visitors to be prepared, understand the importance of water safety, to be alert and to expect the unexpected.

Kansas City District holds change of command ceremony
