      <title>Willamette Valley reservoirs face drought, Army Corps to discuss at public meetings </title>

      <description>Army water managers will hold two virtual information sessions on Tuesday, May 19, to discuss severe drought conditions and the summer forecast for the Willamette Valley’s 13 reservoirs.

According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service, it is the sixth driest in terms of water year precipitation to-date since 1980 in the Willamette Valley. Low rainfall and snowpack have created widespread drought conditions across the region, impacting the efforts to refill the reservoirs and keep them full. &lt;br/&gt;

      <title>Water managers to hold meeting as Rogue River Basin faces historically dry year </title>
      <link>https://nwp.usace.afpims.mil/Media/News-Releases/Article/4482121/water-managers-to-hold-meeting-as-rogue-river-basin-faces-historically-dry-year/</link>
      <description> Water managers will hold two public information sessions May 18 to discuss historically low water levels in the Rogue River Basin.
The experts from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) said the basin is currently on track for one of its worst years on record for water scarcity. Low rainfall and snowpack have created drought conditions for Lost Creek and Applegate lakes, creating challenges for refilling the basin’s two reservoirs ahead of the summer recreation season.

      <title>A Life of Service Earns Top Civilian Scholastic Honor</title>

      <description>Not all leaders are loud and in your face. They don’t have to demand recognition of their status or demand obedience from their subordinates, and they aren’t motivated by the number of awards they can hang on their walls.
Occasionally, a leader is simply recognized and respected because of their calm and quiet way of offering advice and providing mentorship or direction. They look for opportunities to help. They ask the right questions and make those around them feel heard and seen by listening.
Luckily for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Kansas City District, these leadership qualities are found in Eric Shumate, the Deputy District Engineer and the chief of Planning, Programs and Project Management Division.&lt;br/&gt;

      <title>Kanopolis Dam Project Extended to Enhance Downstream Protection; Lake Levels Rise as Gates Close</title>
      <link>https://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Media/News-Releases/Article/4463731/kanopolis-dam-project-extended-to-enhance-downstream-protection-lake-levels-ris/</link>
      <description>The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has announced an extension to the major outlet channel repair project at Kanopolis Dam. The project will now include the placement of additional riprap downstream to increase erosion protection, with an expected completion date in July.
This significant repair project, which addresses issues identified in a 2020 inspection, has been underway to fix erosion and other damages in the outlet channel. The initial work involved replacing existing riprap and addressing the underlying geology that contributed to erosion since the dam's completion in 1948.
Although the channel work is complete, this new phase adds another layer of riprap downstream from the outlet channel to provide enhanced stability.
