Periodic Boundary Maintenance to Begin at the Harry S. Truman Project

Posted: 11 Sep 2009
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the Harry S. Truman Project Office is advising area residents that boundary line maintenance work will soon begin in the Clinton/Henry County area.

One hundred miles of the Harry S. Truman Project Boundary will be treated starting in September with a completion date of March 31, 2010. Arrowhead Starr Company from Arkansas has been awarded the contract for this work.

Boundary line maintenance involves crews replacing damaged or missing boundary signs and posts and clearing brush and small trees from an area four feet wide on the public property side of the boundary line. Trees larger than 6" in diameter will not be removed but pruned of side limbs for a distance of up to 7 feet high on the trunk.

Current year work involves the boundary line along the Grand River arm in Henry County from the Clinton area to the Teal Bend area in Benton County. A second section of boundary work planned for St. Clair County will run from the Gallinipper Creek area near 13 highway along the north bank of the Osage arm to CC Highway in the horse shoe bend area of the project. Work on this section will begin following the completion of the first section.

This contract work is necessary to maintain a visible and distinct boundary line between public and private property. A definitive boundary prevents unintentional encroachments onto public lands by adjacent private property owners and unintentional trespass onto private property by public land visitors.

Questions concerning the project can be directed to Natural Resource Specialist Dan Sandersfeld at Danny.L.Sandersfeld@USACE.Army.mil or 1-816-389-3930.
