Clinton Lake opens beach road

Posted: 30 Jun 2010
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Bloomington Park beach road at Clinton Lake will reopen on July 1.

The road has been closed since May 24 for road construction.

"The improved road will provide a much safer access road to the beach for our visitors," said Sue Gehrt, Clinton Lake operations project manager. Gehrt continued, "The original road was constructed over 30 years ago and was too narrow and in poor condition. We appreciate our visitors' patience and cooperation during construction of the new road."

Clinton Lake South Access to Lower Dam Road Closed Due to Construction

The south entrance to the road along the bottom of Clinton Dam will be closed for approximately 6 weeks due to road construction beginning June 10, 2010. The road will be closed from just past the Model Airplane Airport to just before the entrance of Eagle Bend Golf Course.

The lower dam road, also known as County Road 1200N and County Road 902E, serves Eagle Bend Golf Course, the Off-Leash Dog Area, and the North and South Outlook Parks. The north access road to these facilities (County Road 902E) will remain open during construction. Traffic from the south entrance will be detoured onto 900E (Dam Road) to the north entrance.

"The lower dam road is in dire need of improvement. It is too narrow and is in poor condition," said Sue Gehrt, Clinton Lake operations project manager. Gehrt continued saying, "This road was constructed over 30 years ago when the dam was built. It was not designed to handle the thousands of visitors that use golf course and dog park. ...
