Repairs prompt bridge closure
CLAY COUNTY, Mo -- The Missouri Department of Transportation is preparing for bridge repairs on the Route W bridges over the Smithville Lake Reservoir beginning Friday, April 13. These bridges will receive needed structural repairs requiring restrictions to traffic in the area.
The Route W Bridge near Little Platte Park and W Hwy Boat Ramp will be reduced to one lane beginning Friday, April 13, to allow crews to safely conduct joint repairs on the deck of the bridge. A temporary traffic signal will be used to move motorists safely across the structure, and access to the boat ramp will be maintained during the bridge work.
The Route W Bridge at Owl Creek Arm will undergo extensive substructure repair at the expansion bent of the bridge, requiring complete road closure.
Beginning Monday, April 23, crews will close Route W between Route C and Route J. Although the road will be closed, local traffic will have continued access up to the bridge. Traffic will be detoured using Routes C and J to bypass the bridge closure. Work on the bridges will be done consecutively and is weather dependent. All work is scheduled for completion by the end of May in time for Memorial Day weekend. For more information, contact Kerri Lewis, 816-607-2151
