Rathbun Lake Water Control Manual Revision project

Posted: 7/13/2015

Expiration date: 8/13/2015

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, has prepared a draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, which are available for public review.

The Rathbun Lake Water Control Manual Revision project addresses the limits of the current water control manual that was last revised in 1980. The criteria used for the 1980 mNual revision no longer reflect the current downstream land use and limited water release flexibility has led to adverse impacts on lake levels and dam safety concerns. The Rathbun Lake Water Control Manual Revision intends to revise the manual to reflect current downstream land use; increase the flexibility of the water control manual to address dam safety concerns and better balance the lake's authorized purposes.

The Corps is soliciting public comments on the draft Environmental Assessment, FONSI, and Water Control manual during a 30-day review period that opens July 13, 2015 and will close August 13, 2015. These documents are available for review on the Corps' website at: http://www.nwk.usace.army.mil/Media?PublicNotices/PlanningPublicNotices.aspx. The reports may also be obtained by contacting Mr. Phil Brown, Rathbun Lake Project Manager, U.S. Army Corps of engineers, Rathbun Lake Project, ATTN: Phil Brown, 20112 Hwy J5T, Centerville, IA 52544, by telephone at (641) 647-2464 or by email at Phillip.H.Brown@usace.army.mil.
