  • Milford Lake warning issued for blue green algae blooms

    JUNCTION CITY, Kan.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism are actively responding to harmful algal bloom concerns with site-specific sampling. 

  • Outlet Park Beach closed at Melvern Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Melvern Lake announce the immediate closure of Outlet Park Beach due to elevated levels of E. coli bacteria, which could cause health risks. The beach will be closed until further notice and will re-open as soon as E. coli have returned to safe levels. Corps officials will have the water at the beach tested again Sunday, June 30, 2019, to determine whether the beach can be opened for the holiday weekend.

  • Bucksaw Beach closed at Truman Lake

    WARSAW, Mo.,—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Harry S. Truman Lake announce the immediate closure of Bucksaw Beach due to elevated levels of E.coli bacteria, which could cause health risks.

  • Public health warning for Outlet Campground River Pond at Melvern Lake

    Melvern, Kan.— The U.S Army Corps of Engineers announce the existence of a blue-green algae bloom at the Outlet Campground River Pond downstream of Melvern Lake. Blue-green algae identification tests and toxin tests have confirmed the presence of the algae.

  • Public health warning for Milford Lake

    Junction City, Kan.— Milford Lake is under a lake-wide warning based on cyanobacteria/toxin results from June 27 conducted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Blue-green algae are actually types of bacteria known as Cyanobacteria. When certain conditions are present, such as high nutrient and light levels, these toxic producing organisms can reproduce rapidly producing a harmful algae bloom. KDHE, in cooperation with the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and other lake managers where appropriate, respond by informing the public of these conditions. Based upon sampling results and established health risk levels, the warning for all three zones of Milford Lake are in effect.
