  • Camp Branch swim beach closed at Smithville Lake for precautionary measure

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District identified a potential toxic blue green algae bloom at Smithville Lake near Camp Branch swim beach. As a precautionary measure, Camp Branch swim beach, managed by Clay County Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites, is closed until additional test results are obtained.
  • Corps reopens beaches at Rathbun Lake

    The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rathbun Lake has opened Corps of Engineers’ public designated beaches based on recent algal toxin laboratory results. Data results from Buck Creek and Island View beaches are within the Iowa Department of Natural Resources state beach advisory standards and due to the improved conditions are open.

Corps officials will have the water at the beach tested again Sunday, June 30, 2019, to determine whether the beach can be opened for the holiday weekend.

    PERRY, KAN. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Perry Lake announce that the public swim beach will be closed for public safety due to ongoing recreation upgrades. Once the improvements to the swim beach are complete, visitors will enjoy new outdoor wash stations and a new restroom. In addition to the recreation upgrades, the Corps is working to stabilize the beach shoreline and adding a retaining wall.
