Corps of Engineers hosts hunt in Smithville

Published Nov. 19, 2013

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Smithville Lake is hosting a deer hunt for the physically challenged Nov. 23-24.

This 24th Annual Managed Deer Hunt consists of 65 blinds that are accessible by truck in and around the park areas and Waterfowl Refuge. This hunt continues to prove a success year after year for many hunters that otherwise would not have the ability to enjoy deer season.

In 2012 alone, 74 deer were harvested during the managed hunt. Throughout its 23-year history at Smithville Lake, 1,233 physically challenged hunters have harvested 1,212 deer at this Corps of Engineers event.

Participants for managed hunts submit applications and are selected by random drawings. Those selected were notified in October and must purchase all required deer permits.
